Request Transcript

All students are encouraged to place their transcript order online. This is the easiest and most efficient way to place an order for either a traditional paper transcript or the new electronic transcript delivery.

Obtaining an official transcript

The Office of the Registrar at Northwestern University processes transcript requests for:

  • All undergraduates
  • The Graduate School
  • Graduate programs in:
    • The School of Education & Social Policy
    • McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science
    • Medill School of Journalism
    • Bienen School of Music
    • The School of Communication
    • Prosthetics and Orthotics (NUPOC) - Master’s Students only; Certificate Students must contact NUPOC for transcripts.
    • Physician Assistant Program
  • The Kellogg School of Management
  • The Dental School (1891 – 2001)
  • The Nursing Program (1976- 1990)
  • Non-Degree (including Summer Session)

Transcripts unavailable through the Office of the Registrar

Please visit the School of Professional Studies for transcript requests for the following schools:

  • School of Professional Studies (formerly School of Continuing Studies)
  • Traffic Institute
  • School of Police Staff & Command

Please visit the Pritzker School of Law for a transcript requests.

Please visit Feinberg Medical School for a transcript requests.

Transcript request cost and processing time

  • No refunds will be issued once the order has been submitted. No transcript will be issued until payment is received.
  • Northwestern University does not issue unofficial transcripts
  • All students are encouraged to go online to place their transcript order. This is the easiest and most efficient way to place an order for either a traditional paper transcript or the new electronic transcript delivery.
  • Transcript requests will not be processed for students with a transcript “hold” on their student record.

Electronic transcripts

  • It is the responsibility of the transcript requestor to verify that the recipient will accept delivery of an Electronic PDF transcript before requesting the Electronic PDF transcript. 
  • Transcript requestors and electronic transcript recipients should ensure their email clients will accept emails from noreply@addsmail.com; check “junk” folder for errant emails.
  • Electronic transcripts are available to be downloaded (maximum of 3 downloads per transcript) for 90 days from date of issue.
Processing Time Transcript Fee
eTranscript
Delivered electronically, typically between 2 to 24 hours, excluding during times of scheduled maintenance and planned system outages.
$8 per transcript
eTranscript Pre-2000
Orders placed during regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. CST/CDT) will be processed within 24 hours. Orders placed over the weekend and holidays will be processed the next business day, excluding times of scheduled maintenance and planned system outages.

AMCAS eTranscript
Delivered electronically to AMCAS, typically between 2 to 24 hours, excluding during times of scheduled maintenance and planned system outages. AMCAS request form is not needed when placing an “AMCAS e-Transcript.”

AMCAS eTranscript pre-2000
Orders placed during regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.) will be processed within 24 hours and delivered to AMCAS. Orders placed over the weekend and holidays will be processed the next business day, excluding times of scheduled maintenance and planned system outages. AMCAS request form is not needed when placing an “AMCAS e-Transcript pre-2000.”

Please note: An official transcript bears the University Seal and a signature certifying its authenticity. Official transcripts are sensitive official documents and their release requires a written signature. For information regarding the laws governing the disclosure of student records, please visit our Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act page (FERPA).

Current students

Place your transcript request online through CAESAR (CAESAR Homepage > Academic Records > Request Official Transcript). Transcripts requested through CAESAR must be paid for with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover).

Former students

Northwestern University has authorized Parchment Exchange to provide transcript ordering services to former students via the Internet.

  • The site will walk you through placing your order, including delivery options and fees
  • You can order as many transcripts, to be sent to as many destinations as you like in a single session
  • This service is available 24/7
  • Order updates will be emailed to you
  • You can check your order status or order history online
  • Your credit card will only be charged after your order has been completed
  • All charges are non-refundable

Ordering a transcript by mail, fax, or in person

Please note: Transcript requests cannot be e-mailed or taken by telephone. Transcripts cannot be faxed or e-mailed.

To request an Official Transcript by mail or fax please use the Transcript Request form or include the following information:

  • Name under which you were enrolled at Northwestern University
  • Student ID number (if available)
  • Date of birth
  • School or division in which you were enrolled (see list of schools below)
  • Dates of attendance
  • Degree(s) earned and date(s) awarded, if any
  • Complete address to which transcript is to be sent
  • If paying by credit card please call (847) 467-0760 during business hours to provide the credit card information after mailing or faxing the transcript order. Do not give credit card information in voice mail.
  • Phone number or email address (in case we encounter a problem & need to contact you)
  • Your signature and the date (we will not process a request without your signature)

Please note: Do not include credit card information on the Transcript Request form or other correspondence. Northwestern University cannot accept credit card information on this form or other written correspondence.
