Northwestern Monday

In the fall of 2019, President Schapiro and Provost Holloway announced changes to commencement, spring break and the start of the spring quarter: spring quarters will now routinely start on Tuesday, rather than Monday, to afford two full weekends of break.

Though spring quarters will begin on a Tuesday, the Monday class schedule will be in effect, a practice referred to as “Northwestern Monday.” Classes that usually meet only on Tuesdays will not meet during the first week of the term. Kellogg graduate classes and all classes taught by the School of Professional Studies operate on a slightly different schedule the first week of the quarter. Schools have shared that schedule directly with their students, faculty and staff.

Start of Spring Quarter 2021:
Monday, March 29 – No classes
Tuesday, March 30 – Classes begin. Northwestern Monday: Classes scheduled for Monday meet on this day.
Wednesday, March 31 – Friday, April 2 - Schedule returns to normal.
Monday, April 5 – Classes meet as usual: Monday classes are held.
Tuesday, April 6 – Classes meet as usual: Tuesday only classes meet for the first time.

Please be aware that the meeting days and times are reflected in CAESAR and in RES. Instructors can see the Northwestern Monday schedule under "View Weekly Teaching Schedule" in CAESAR. Students can see the Northwestern Monday schedule under "View My Class Schedule."
