Academic Advising in CAESAR

Get Started


Step 1
Point your browser to CAESAR and login using your NetID and password. The Welcome page will appear.
Step 2
To use advising functions, from the CAESAR menu, click For Advisors and then click the secondary submenu you wish to access:

View an Advisee's Schedule


CAESAR will allow you to view a student's class schedule in two different formats: a detail or a weekly view. Once you have retrieved a student's schedle in either format you can easily navigate to other functions such as viewing an Advising Transcript, Grades by Term or Holds & To-Do Items.

Step 1
From the CAESAR menu, click For Advisors. The Advisee Class Schedule submenu appears. Select either the Detail View or Weekly View. An Advisee Class Schedule - Search page appears.

Step 2
Narrow your search by setting criteria in multiple fields and selecting "Exact Match" or "Partial Match" as appropriate. Or, to retrieve a list of all your advisees, simply click on the Search button. Note: Broad searches take time! Entering all or part of a student's name is the fastest way to find a particular student.

Step 3
Once your search criteria are set, click the Search button.
If the system locates an exact match, the student's name will appear.
If the system locates several matches to the criteria provided, a list of students will appear. If a list of students is returned, click on the appropriate option from the drop-down available.
If no matches are found, CAESAR will return a message stating: "SELECTION RESULT: No Matching Student(s) found." If you receive this message, click on the "SELECT NEW SEARCH CRITERIA" link to perform another search.

Step 4
To search for another student select "New Advisee Class Schedule Search" from the right-hand corner. To navigate to another function for the same student, select the desired functino from the same menu.

View an Advisee's Academic Summary


CAESAR will allow you to view a student's academic information in three different formats: grades by term, degree progress or advising transcript.
Once you have retrieved a student's academic information in the format of choice you can easily navigate to other functions by selecting them from the drop-down menu provided in the upper right hand corner.

Step 1
If you haven't already done so, click For Academic Advisors. The Academic Summary submenu appears.
Step 2
To view a different term for the same advisee when viewing their grade history by term, select the desired term from the drop-down menu provided.

Step 3
To print a student's grades by term, click on the printer icon. To print a student's advising transcript results or degree progress report click on the "Switch to printer-friendly view" link. When the reformatted transcript results appear, click on the printer icon.

Step 4
To search for another student select "New Advisee Transcript Search," "New Advisee Degree Progress Search," or "New Advisee Grade Inquiry Search" from the drop-down menu provided in the upper right-hand corner. To navigate to another function for the same student, select the desired functtion from the same menu

View an Advisee's Holds and To-Dos

CAESAR will allow you to view a student's holds and to-do items.
Once you have retrieved a student's holds or "To-Do" items you can easily navigate to other functions for that student by selecting them form the drop-down menu provided in the upper right hand corner.

Step 1

If you haven't already done so, click For Academic Advisors. The Advisee Class Schedule submenu appears.
Select Holds & To-Dos
An Advisee/Hold To-Do - Search page appears similar to the one pictures in the above section on "Viewing an Advisee's Class Schedule." Search for your advisee using the search criteria perviously described.



Step 2
To print a student's Holds and To-Dos, click on the printer icon.

Step 3
To search for another student, select "New Advisee Hold/To Do Search" from the drop-down menu provided in the upper right-hand corner. To navigate to another function for the same student, select the desired function from the same menu.

Find Open Classes

Before you send an advisee off to register, you may want to recommend that he or she plan his or her schedule with a list of alternative for classes that might be closed. The student can use the Course Planning Sheet (pdf) to plan around the schedule conflicts, and have the class numbers of desired classes ready when his or her regisration appointment time arrives. Class schedules and class numbers are found both in the printed schedule and on CAESAR.

Step 1
Click the Class Search button on the CAESAR menu. The Class Search - Selection Criteria search page appears.

Step 2
The Term field will fill in automatically based on your user preferences. Change the Term if necessary. For more information on using user preferences, please see the online help.

Step 3
Set your search criteria. Two or more of the criteria required to have values specified to execute a search (the Term selection and Open Only checkbox do not count). The more criteria selected, the faster a search will complete.

Step 4
Once your search criteria are set, click the Search button. A list of matching courses will be returned in the Class Search - Selection Result page. Note: The more restrictive your search, the faster this list will appear.

Have your advisee note the class number and meeting times of classes that he or she wants to enroll in on their Course Planning Sheet (pdf). To view further information about a class on the search results list, click the Class Nbr to open the Class Search - Class Detail page.

Complete Your Advising Session


To protect the security of your account, you should logout of CAESAR and then quit your web browser when you are finished with your advising session. To do so, from the CAESAR menu, click Logout to close your session and then quit your browser.
