H-1B Degree Verification for International Students

Because Winter Quarter degree conferral occurs very close to the H-1B application deadline of April 1, the Office of the Registrar can provide an H-1B Degree Verification Letter for eligible students graduating Winter term who are applying for the H-1B visa and have completed all school/department and University degree requirements. If the student is currently enrolled in courses, the degree verification letter will not be issued until all grades have been posted, the Office of the Registrar and the school/department have recommended the student for graduation and the conferral date has been reached.

Students completing degrees in all terms except Winter Quarter should request an official transcript via CAESAR after the degree conferral date of their graduation term. The official transcript indicates the results of all work completed and degrees awarded. Students can also request an official degree certification via CAESAR.

The H-1B degree certification letter states that school/program and University requirements are complete, the student’s degree name and the conferral date.

Procedure to request the letter

Include in the request:

Processing Time

Requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Students are encouraged to initiate requests as early as possible to allow time for the department/school and the University to evaluate for degree conferral. Any requests received after the dates listed above may not be processed in time to meet the April 1 filing deadline for H1B applications.
